Upcoming Home Decor Trends You Need To Know

Even though 2024 has only just begun, we’re already hearing about significant home decor trends for the year. Many of them are timeless trends that look fabulous today, and we expect will stand the test of time.

Here are a few upcoming home decor trends we’re excited about, and we think you’ll be too!

Multi-functional furniture

A key trend we’re noticing is how people are turning to multi-use furniture. This is likely due to more people living in smaller homes and condos, and those who prefer more minimalistic design approaches.

For example, some modern fireplace mantels come with hidden drawers to store your precious small items out of view to minimize clutter. We’re also seeing a rise in the popularity of ottomans and bench seating that double as storage. Even coffee tables can pull double duty and transform into a desk or game table.

Contrasting textures

Home designers love contrasting textures in their clients' homes. This breaks up the monotony in a simply-themed room by creating depth. Textures can be incorporated through fabrics and linens, decor items and art, wall colour or pattern, and furniture. For example, you could balance a ”rough” texture like a brick wall with the smooth, glossy texture of your coffee table and couch frames.

More purposeful lighting

Lighting is becoming a focal point of many home decor designs. We’re seeing lighting plans that include multiple lighting sources in the space. For example, a family room may contain large windows behind the couch for natural lighting), a tall reading lamp by your cozy recliner, potlights in the ceiling for ambient lighting at night, and mood lighting created by dancing LED lights from your electric fireplace.

Modern fireplaces and mantels

Fireplace trends have come a long way in the past few decades. Today’s modern fireplaces are unique, eye-catching, and more often electric. Families often love floating mantel fireplaces in smaller homes or when space is at a premium.

A great new product line that expertly matches this fireplace trend is the Active Flame Fireplace Floating Mantel Shelf. We love this new product from Active Flame because:

●      It has a modern, contemporary design: Choose from grey wood, urban cement, or hexagon tile facades, creating a unique look.

●      Does not take up any floor space: These floating shelves are mounted on your wall, saving precious floor space for whatever you want (or even nothing at all). It is also mindful of wall space, being only 48 inches wide (typical wall or surface mount electric fireplaces are 42 -72 inches wide)

●      Multi-functional: They feature a concealed drawer in the mantel for storing all your secrets (or items you don’t need or want in view). You can also place small decor items on the shelf. You can also put two potted plants in the plastic trays in the shelf.

●      Easy-to-install: Traditional fireplaces require recessed installation in your wall. These floating fireplaces are surface wall mounts, making installation easier and faster.
